Iran War 2026: Amid the escalated tension in the Middle East, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday drew parallel between the current war to the war between Vietnam and the US. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Iranian foreign minister reminded that the US declared victory in Vietnam even after its thousands of soldiers died. He further claimed that the Trump administration is copying the same strategy, adding that Iran has strongly responded to the attacks.
"Americans haven't forgotten how, even as hundreds of US soldiers were dying in Vietnam, and the outcome was already clear, General William Westmoreland was flown home to reassure everyone that the war was going well - that the US was 'winning,'" Araghchi stated in his post. "The media haven't forgotten either; those briefings full of fantasy from the frontlines became infamous as the 'Five O'Clock Follies'," he added.
While drawing parallel, he stated that the US government is using the "same script", adding that the Trump administration has been hiding the truth. "Fast forward to today: same script, different stage; Hegseth steps up, and the message is still detached from reality," he stated.
"US government says one thing, reality says another. Right as US authorities claim Iran's air defences r gone, an F-35 gets hit. As they declare Iran's navy finished, USS Gerald Ford turns back, and USS Abraham Lincoln drifts farther away. Different decade, same 'we're winning,'" Araghchi further added.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump slammed the NATO countries for not supporting the American navy in clearing the Strait of Hormuz. "Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk," the US president said in his post. "COWARDS, and we will REMEMBER!" he added.
