Iran-US war: A viral video has been making the rounds on social media, seemingly showing another US F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet crashing somewhere in the Middle East. The clip shows the aircraft trailing smoke and flames before spiraling to the ground, with reports suggesting the pilot ejected safely.

The exact time and place of the footage remain unconfirmed. Still, some social media users and Grok AI have linked it to recent Iranian claims that their air defense systems shot down an American F-15 near Hormuz Island, off Iran’s southern coast.

Iranian state-affiliated media, including Tehran Times and the Islamic Republic News Agency, said that their forces intercepted and downed an "enemy" F-15 using surface-to-air missiles. They described it as a successful defense against a hostile incursion near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, even sharing what they said were radar or engagement videos to back up the claim.

The United States has firmly denied the reports. US Central Command (CENTCOM) called the claims "false," posting, "Rumors claim the Iranian regime recently shot down a US F-15 over Iran. FALSE: US forces have flown more than 8,000 combat flights during Operation Epic Fury. No US fighter aircraft have been shot down by Iran."

CENTCOM also emphasized that all American fighter jets in the region are operational, highlighting the sheer scale of US air operations without suffering losses from Iranian attacks.

The timing of the viral video has sparked questions about its origins. Earlier reports from March show that three US F-15E Strike Eagles were lost over Kuwait in a confirmed friendly fire incident. According to US Central Command, Kuwaiti air defenses accidentally engaged the jets during an Iranian missile and drone attack.

The video clip from that March 2 incident, showing F-15s crashing near Al Jahra and other parts of Kuwait, matches the spiraling aircraft and ejection scenes seen in the current viral clip. Many media outlets suggest the viral video may simply be new angles or a recirculation of that earlier incident, rather than proof of a fresh Iranian shoot-down.

The Middle East conflict started following the killing of 86-year-old Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in joint military strikes by the US and Israel, after which Iran, in its retaliation, targeted Israeli and US assets in several Gulf countries and Israel, causing disruption in the waterway and affecting international energy markets and global economic stability since February 28.
