In a bold act of defiance against the oppressive restrictions imposed on women in Iran, a woman was recently captured on video snatching a cleric’s turban and using it as a hijab. The incident took place in a public space and quickly spread across social media platforms, sparking widespread discussion.
The video, which has garnered attention globally, shows the woman boldly approaching a cleric, removing his turban, and placing it on her head as a form of protest. This symbolic gesture challenges the strict dress codes enforced by the Iranian government, particularly those related to the mandatory hijab law.
In the video, the Iranian woman confronts the cleric, asking, “So you have honour now?” She then searches for her husband, calling his name and demanding answers, expressing frustration over his actions.’
Iran's state-affiliated media, such as Mashregh News, attempted to downplay the incident, suggesting the woman involved had "psychological problems" and reporting that she was briefly detained before being released.
A brave woman at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport confronted a cleric harassing her for not wearing a hijab. In a bold act of defiance, she removed his turban and wore it like a scarf, turning oppression into resistance.

Iranian Journalist Masih Alinejad Highlights Woman’s Defiant Confrontation
The video was shared on social media by Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad, who described the woman’s confrontation with the cleric as a courageous act of defiance after he allegedly harassed her for not wearing a hijab.
The recent confrontation is part of a larger wave of civil disobedience in the country. This act of protest follows the 2022 death of Mahsa Amini in police custody, which sparked widespread outrage and led to ongoing demonstrations against the enforcement of Iran’s strict mandatory hijab laws.
Mahsa Amini’s tragic death became a catalyst for change, as many Iranian women began resisting the oppressive dress code. These protests have grown louder, with more women challenging the government’s strict regulations in public spaces, including airports, where restrictions are heavily enforced.
