After days of nationwide mourning, Iran's slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday night. During the funeral ceremony, an unusual incident drew widespread attention as mourners set fire to a giant LEGO-style figure resembling US President Donald Trump. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, reflecting growing anger against the United States amid rising tensions in the region.

Trump Effigy Set On Fire

The video has been shared on X by Clash Report, a global news platform. The clip showed a giant Trump-like LEGO figure hanging from a crane. In the same frame, people carrying burning sticks are seen gathering around it before setting it on fire. Within minutes, the effigy was completely engulfed in flames as people raised slogans.

Millions Attend Khamenei’s Funeral

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, was buried near the shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad. His funeral, which began on July 3, lasted for five days and passed through Tehran, Qom, and parts of neighbouring Iraq. Millions of people joined the funeral procession. During the funeral procession in Tehran, many mourners shouted slogans such as “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.” Khamenei was killed on the first day of the US-Israeli strikes on February 28. Several members of his family, including his 14-month-old granddaughter, were also killed in the same attacks.

Iran Vows Retaliation

While Iran bid a final farewell to its Supreme Leader, tensions remained high across West Asia. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi on Friday vowed to retaliate against the US and Israel, declaring that the killing of Khamenei will not “be erased from the historical memory.” He called for “full realisation of justice and a fitting response to the criminals, especially the child-killing American army.”
