As the Trump administration faces political pressure over its tough immigration crackdown, reports have surfaced that US President Donald Trump may be rethinking parts of his strategy. The recent crackdown, in states like Texas and in major cities such as Chicago and Minneapolis, has drawn significant public attention and scrutiny.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Trump may be considering changes in parts of his immigration strategy after private discussions with First Lady Melania Trump and senior aides like White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The report stated that Trump has become concerned about how aggressive actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are being viewed by the public.

Report Suggests Shift In ICE Policy

Earlier in January, deaths during ICE operations in Minneapolis sparked protests and investigations. According to the report, Trump may now prefer a more targeted approach that will focus on individuals accused of serious crimes instead of large-scale raids. The report added that daily immigration-related arrests have dropped from over 1,500 to around 1,200.

White House Denies Changes

While the reports have surfaced, the White House has denied any change in immigration policy. Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said, “Nobody is changing the Administration’s immigration enforcement agenda.” She added that the administration remains focused on deporting individuals who pose a threat to public safety and maintaining strong border enforcement. She emphasised that Trump’s “highest priority has always been the deportation of illegal alien criminals who endanger American communities."
