Israel-Palestine War: The chief of Israeli military intelligence on Tuesday sent out a letter to his subordinates wherein he acknowledged that the corps failed to foresee the onslaught launched by Palestinian militant outfit Hamas in Israel on October 7. In the missive, Major-General Aharon Haliva stressed that the intelligence failure occurred under his command and said that he bore "full responsibilty" for it.
"In all my visits to Military Intelligence Directorate units in the last 11 days, I sat down and stressed that the beginning of the war was an intelligence failure," the Israeli General wrote in the corps-wide communique.

"The Military Intelligence Directorate, under my command, failed to warn of the terror attack carried out by Hamas," Haliva said. "We failed in our most important mission, and as the head of the Military Intelligence Directorate, I bear full responsibility for the failure," the letter added.
"What needs to be investigated, we will investigate, in the deepest and most comprehensive way, and draw the conclusions," he said in the letter, adding, "But now, there is only one task, to fight back and to win."

The admission of failure by the chief of Israel's military intelligence arm followed a similar acknowledgement by the head of the country's domestic spy agency, Shin Bet. On Monday, Shin Bet director Ronen Bar took responsibility for failing to prevent Hamas from carrying out its deadly rampage through towns in southern Israel.
"Despite a series of actions we carried out, unfortunately, on Saturday we were unable to generate sufficient warning that would allow the attack to be thwarted," Bar said in a statement. "As the one who heads the organization, the responsibility for this is on me. There will be time for investigations. Now we fight," he added.
