One of the two hostages released by Hamas from their captivity on humanitarian and poor health grounds on Tuesday revealed she was taken into tunnels in Gaza which looked like spiderwebs, news agency Reuters reported. Moreover, much to the surprise of people, 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz said the militant group ‘treated us gently and met all our needs’, adding that Israel didn’t take Hamas threat ‘seriously’.
Amid the ongoing war between Palestine and Israel, the militant movement Hamas on Tuesday released two more hostages, The Times of Israel reported. The media outlet, while quoting a nurse in Ichilov Hospital, said both the hostages--Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz-- were in good health as they directly landed on the roof of the hospital in a military helicopter. The duo was released on humanitarian and medical grounds, said a spokesman for the armed wing of the Palestinian Hamas militant group on Telegram.
Israel, however, said it will not hold off its ground offensive in Gaza over hostages being held there. "Everything would be done to bring the hostages home. But that cannot hinder our actions including the ground offensive, if we decide on it. Hamas wants us to deal with the captives and wants the military to not go in to eliminate their infrastructure. That will not happen," Israeli Minister Israel Katz said.
The unprecedented war between Hamas and Israel has been escalating since its onset on October 7. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to destroy Hamas after the latter showered as many as 5,000 missiles unbridled in the territory of Israel.
IDF on Monday launched "limited" grounds raids in Gaza, which targeted over 320 targets. Hamas-run ministry claimed as many as 436 people were killed since the operation began. Israel military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the motive behind raids by Israeli forces was also to ascertain the whereabouts of the hostages who were abducted by Hamas terrorists on October 7.
As per the IDF, over 222 people were in the captivity of Hamas. However, with the release of the two hostages, the number has come down to 220.
