Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar's elder brother, Mohammad Tahir Anwar, has died in Pakistan under mysterious circumstances. The exact cause of his death has not yet been disclosed. Anwar was one of Azhar's five brothers and played a key role within the group in carrying out major terror operations.
Cause Of Death Not Known
The news of his death circulated on pro-JeM Telegram channels. According to the message, the funeral of Azhar’s brother was held on Monday night at Jamia Masjid Usman-o-Ali in Bahawalpur. His funeral was reportedly attended by key members of the terror outfit.
Anwar led armed cadres of Jaish and was also appointed as the JeM’s Markaz Usman-o-Ali. Several reports claim that he was involved in overseeing terrorist training operations since 2001.
Major Setback For JeM
If confirmed, his death would be a major setback for the terror organisation. Earlier in May 2025, Azhar claimed that 10 members of his family and four of his aides were killed in India's targeted airstrikes under Operation Sindoor. JeM’s headquarters in Bahawalpur suffered massive damages in the strikes.
