RUSSIA on Wednesday accused Ukraine of attacking the Kremlin with drones in a failed attempt to kill Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, the Kremlin claimed that it had shot down two Ukrainian drones.

The Kremlin also said that Putin was not injured in the attack and no damage was reported in the Kremlin building. Kremlin further called the attack a ‘planned terrorist attack’ to assassinate Putin.

The Russian President has reportedly survived five assassination attempts on his life before this attack.

Here Are Some Assassination Attempts Survived By Vladimir Putin:

- Earlier in May 2022, Ukraine’s Chief of Defence Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin was the target of a failed assassination attempt which took place in the Caucasus, a region located between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. The attempt was made soon after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.

- In 2012, a failed attempt to kill Putin was made ahead of the presidential election. The attempt was foiled by the Russian and Ukrainian security services. Two men were arrested in connection with the incident.

One man who was arrested in this incident was identified as Chechen rebel, Adam Osmayev from the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odesa. The man allegedly had links with the UK.

- Earlier in 2003, British anti-terror police thwarted a plot to assassinate Putin during his visit in October, as reported by the Sunday Times. However, two men were arrested in connection with the incident.

- An Iraqi man was arrested in 2002 during Putin's visit to Azerbaijan after plotting to assassinate the Russian president. The man allegedly had links with Afghanistan and Chechen rebel forces. The man was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

- The same year, in November, the police received information regarding a plan to assassinate Putin. 40 Kilograms of explosives were reportedly found along the motorway used by the Russian president.
