Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi and fugitive tycoon Vijay Mallya were seen singing “I Did It My Way” at a lavish party in London. The clip, shared by Modi on Instagram, has since gone viral and stirred widespread interest, not only for the display of wealth and celebrity but also for the checkered pasts of its two central figures.
The grand bash hosted by Lalit Modi drew over 310 friends and family members, some of whom had reportedly travelled across continents for the occasion. Among the attendees was former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Chris Gayle, who later posted a photo with both Modi and Mallya on his Instagram story. “We living it up. Thanks for a lovely evening,” Gayle wrote, tagging the duo.
Modi captioned the video, “Had an amazing night with 310 friends and family... Thank you to one and all who attended this evening and made it one of the most special nights for me. Hope this video doesn’t break the internet. Controversial for sure. But that’s what I do best.” Both Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya have long been in the public eye, often for reasons that stretch beyond business or cricket.

Lalit Modi: Exiled
Once hailed as the mastermind behind the Indian Premier League, Lalit Modi’s fall from grace was swift. In 2010, he was suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on 22 charges, including bid rigging, accepting kickbacks, and money laundering. Modi subsequently fled to London, citing threats to his life. He was also accused of FEMA violations worth hundreds of crores and remains under investigation by Indian authorities.
Despite the controversies, Modi has continued to live lavishly in London, expanding his family’s business interests in Europe and remaining a vocal critic of his former BCCI colleagues, particularly N Srinivasan.
Vijay Mallya: Still On Bail
Vijay Mallya, once known as the “King of Good Times,” has been entangled in legal battles related to fraud and money laundering involving ₹9,000 crore in unpaid loans. He was arrested in London in 2017 on India’s extradition request and remains on bail, pending legal proceedings. Mallya, who no longer resides in India, has dismissed the accusations as a "witch hunt" and insists he did nothing wrong.
