A Texas woman broke the record for the largest breastmilk donation by giving away an impressive 2,645.58 litres to those in need. Alyssa Ogletree shattered her own 2014 Guinness World Record of donating 1,569.79 litres, becoming the individual with the largest breastmilk donation anywhere in the world, the Guardian stated.

The 36-year-old woman might have just helped over 350,000 babies as a single litre of breastmilk can sustain 11 premature babies, says Mothers' Milk Bank of North Texas. Her incredible contribution has been noted by the esteemed organisation.

"I have a big heart, but at the end of the day, I'm not made of money and can't give away money to good causes over and over because I have a family to support. But donating milk was a way I could give back Alyssa said in an interview recently published on Guinness World Records' website.

Apart from helping organisations feed premature babies, Alyssa said that she also helped friends who needed breastmilk for their kids.

“If the three per ounce is accurate, I've helped over 350,000 babies. This record is for just under 89,000 ounces, but I also did around 37,000 to Tiny Treasures, and probably another couple hundred to close friends."

Ogletree started donating large amounts of breastmilk after the birth of her first son Kyle in 2014. During that time she first observed that she was producing unusually large amounts of breastmilk. A nurse suggested I donate the excess milk to the needy mothers, Alyssa said.

Thus her journey to contribute to society through breastmilk donation began which ultimately helped her achieve the world record.

"I pumped every 3 hours, even overnight, for 15-30 minutes. After pumping, I froze my milk until my freezer was full. Next, I took it to the milk bank, where they would measure the frozen milk on a specially calibrated scale," she added.
