Malaysian influencer viral post:  A Malaysian social media influencer has landed in a controversial debate after making derogatory remarks about men who perform household chores, branding them “gay,” “stupid,” “weak,” and “losers.”

The influencer, known online as dma_islam, has more than 32,000 followers on Instagram and openly describes himself as a “misogynist” in his bio. On August 26, he shared a Threads post featuring an image with the caption: “Change children’s pampers = GAY.” He went on to say, “Men who do housework are weak. Bro, you’re a man. You’re supposed to be the leader of the house. Why are you doing chores? Have you ever seen a king clean his own palace?” Comparing men who sweep floors or change diapers to rulers distracted from “national affairs,” he argued that a husband’s only role is to “earn money, dominate the world and become the strongest, most respected man.”

Accused Men Of Being “Afraid of Wives”

In follow-up comments, the influencer added that husbands who take out the trash, wash dishes or bathe children are simply “lazy to work hard” or “afraid of their wives.” He further claimed that a “respectful wife” would never allow her husband to perform household duties. The controversial posts, rife with spelling errors, including a misspelling of the word “loser,” have sparked widespread ridicule and condemnation across Malaysian social media.

Social Media Backlash

Thousands of users pushed back against his remarks, calling them toxic, outdated, and disrespectful. Many men proudly shared their own routines of cooking, cleaning, and caring for children, stating that household responsibility is part of being a good father and husband. One user responded, “I just swept the floor, washed dishes, folded clothes, and took out the trash. Does that make me gay? My wife works harder managing the kids all day. Marriage means sharing responsibilities.” Another commented bluntly, “He can’t even spell ‘loser’ correctly, and yet he’s trying to lecture men on how to live?” Others accused the influencer of weaponising homophobia and belittling responsible fathers.

This is not the first time the influencer has stirred outrage. In the past, he has faced criticism for referring to career-minded women as “stupid” and asserting that “plus-sized people don’t deserve respect.” Even after the sustained criticism, he has not apologised and has not explained himself.

The incident has reopened discussions of gender inequity and toxic masculinity in Malaysia, with advocacy organisations calling on young men to abandon detrimental gender norms. Netizens pointed out that considering taking care of the house as a “woman’s job” and as a “weakness” robs partnership of its more noble attributes and perpetuates a toxic level of disrespect.
