In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves across Pakistan, a married woman and her lover have been arrested for allegedly murdering her three young children after drugging them with sleeping pills in Punjab’s Gujrat district. The incident took place in Sarai Alamgir, around 200 kilometres from Lahore, police said on Saturday.
The victims included two daughters and a son, aged between three and seven years. According to investigators, the accused mixed a large quantity of sleeping pills into fruit chaat, fed it to the children, and later strangled them one by one after they fell unconscious.
Accused Wanted To Marry, Police Say
Police identified the woman as Sidra Bashir and her alleged accomplice as Babar Hussain. The two reportedly met on a video-sharing platform around one-and-a-half years ago and later decided to get married. “When they made plans to marry, the woman repeatedly asked her husband for a divorce and frequently quarrelled with him,” police officer Omar Farooq told reporters, as quoted by PTI.

During interrogation, Sidra allegedly confessed that she and Hussain killed the children because they believed they could not marry while the children were alive.
Bodies Burned, Buried To Hide Identity
Investigators said the crime did not end with the murders. After killing the children, the accused allegedly took the bodies to a deserted location, burned them to prevent identification, and buried the remains in a remote mountainous area. “Both burned the bodies at a deserted location so that they would not be identifiable and then buried them there,” Farooq said.
The case came to light after Sidra’s husband filed a missing persons complaint for his wife and their three children, prompting a police search operation.
Police said tracing the woman was challenging due to the lack of initial leads. However, intelligence teams eventually tracked her down and arrested her. Based on her identification, her lover Babar Hussain was also taken into custody. “Tracing the woman was a difficult task. Our intelligence team succeeded and arrested her. Following her arrest, we also apprehended her lover on her identification,” Farooq said.
