Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh met with US President Donald Trump on Monday during the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, marking the first such interaction between an Indian minister and the US leader since Operation Sindoor. Singh attended the summit as India’s special envoy.
The decision to send Singh came after a last-minute invitation extended to Prime Minister Modi on Saturday by President Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. While PM Modi could not attend, Singh represented India in the critical discussions focusing on peace, reconstruction, and regional stability.

Upon arrival, Singh was received by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. “It was a privilege to meet His Excellency President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during the Gaza Peace Summit. Egypt and India share a significant and vibrant strategic partnership. The Summit underscored the global commitment to peace and dialogue,” Singh tweeted. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to stability and enduring security in the Middle East.
Trump’s Middle East Initiative
President Donald Trump arrived in Egypt after visiting Israel, where he celebrated a US-brokered ceasefire with Hamas. Speaking at the Knesset in Jerusalem, Trump called for a new era of regional harmony and reconstruction in Gaza. He urged Palestinians to move away from violence and focus on rebuilding their communities, promising international support for humanitarian aid.
Trump emphasised the fragile nature of the ceasefire and the ongoing need for collaboration between Israel, Palestine, and the international community. His plan included the release of hostages, partial Israeli troop withdrawal, humanitarian aid, and the potential rehabilitation of Gaza, which has suffered extensive damage during the conflict.
Over two dozen countries participated in the summit hosted by Egypt and the US. While Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu could not attend due to a Jewish holiday, the summit underscored renewed international focus on resolving the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
