A bizarre discovery on a UK beach has left locals baffled, with some wondering if they have stumbled upon the remains of a mythical mermaid or something extraterrestrial. A couple enjoying a stroll along the coast in Margate, Kent, came across a peculiar "skeleton-like" figure, triggering curiosity and speculation online.

On Monday, March 10, Paula Regan and her husband, Dave, set out for a relaxing walk by the shore, only to be confronted by something out of the ordinary. The object, partially buried in the sand and surrounded by seaweed, bore a humanoid skeletal structure with a fish-like tail. At first, Paula mistook it for driftwood or even a dead seal, but as they got closer, the mysterious figure became even more perplexing.

"It was a beautiful, sunny day, and we thought we’d blow the cobwebs away with a walk along the beach," Paula told The Mirror. "The beach was empty, so it stood out. At first, I thought it was a bit of driftwood or maybe a dead seal because I could see these funny tail fin things."

Sparking Public Fascination

As word spread, a crowd gathered around the strange object, eager to decipher what it could be. Paula took photographs of the eerie figure, which quickly went viral online, fueling theories ranging from a decayed sea creature to an elaborate hoax.

"The head looked skeletal, but the back part—where the fishtail was—was soft and squidgy," Paula explained to Daily Star. "It didn't feel slimy or decomposed, but it was definitely strange."

Some bystanders speculated that it might have been a ship’s figurehead, similar to carved mermaids seen in maritime history. Others theorised that it could be a previously undiscovered marine species, or even the decayed remains of a sea creature altered by time and tide.

What Could It Be?

Experts have yet to confirm what exactly washed up on the beach, but marine biologists suggest it could be the remains of a large fish or marine mammal that had deteriorated over time. Others argue that it could be an artistic sculpture or a fragment of a sunken vessel.

Despite the speculation, the mystery remains unsolved. "For the life of me, I can’t tell you what it was," Paula said. "It was the weirdest thing."
