Pakistan's former Prime Minister and Sharif family patriarch, Nawaz Sharif on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on assuming office for a historic third term. While wishing PM Modi on NDA's electoral win, Sharif said that this victory reflected the confidence of people in the Prime Minister's leadership. This came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the oath of office on Sunday for a consecutive third time, paving the way for a National Democratic Alliance's coalition government.

Sharif, who was once the man at the helm in Pakistan and later lived in self-exile, returned to the country last year after his brother Shehbaz Sharif formed the government by dethroning former Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan from the top post.

In a bid to thaw the frozen India-Pakistan bilateral relationship, Nawaz Sharif appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "replace hate with hope and seize the opportunity to shape the destiny of the two billion people of South Asia."

Earlier, the current Pakistan PM and brother of Nawaz, Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Modi in a one-line social media post.

"Felicitations to @narendramodi on taking oath as the Prime Minister of India," Shehbaz wrote on X. Responding to his congratulatory X post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked him with again a single line text: "Thank you @cmshehbaz for your good wishes."

However, the exchange of pleasantries between the heads of the two nations came after Pakistan-based terrorists attacked a bus of Hindu devotees in Jammu and Kashmir's Raesi. In the barbaric attack, nine passengers lost their lives while over 30 sustained injuries after the bus fell into a deep roadside gorge. Security forces have launched an operation to identify and neutralise the perpetrators.
