Nepal Gen Z Protest Top Update: The Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli, resigned after a Gen Z protest, sparked by a ban on multiple social media platforms, turned into a widespread anti-corruption movement, which hit the streets on Monday. Along with the Prime Minister, the President of Nepal has also resigned over corruption charges. Government buildings in the capital Kathmandu were set ablaze as protests entered second day on Tuesday.

Despite an indefinite curfew, the unrest in the country continues with protestors clashing with security forces across the country. Here’s what happened in the neighbouring country—

- Nepal Army Chief addressed the nation on Tuesday, urging citizens to maintain peace and law and order.

-Army has taken over the security in Nepal after crowd tries to vandalise Pashuptinath temple on Tuesday. 

- According to media reports, as many as 19 people were killed in the protests, while several others have sustained injury. Protesters stormed the PM’s residence, demanding accountability for the deaths of demonstrators, leading to the PM’s resignation.

- Nepal Army announces mobilisation of security forces amid continued unrest. To control the violence and maintain law and order, the army announced the mobilisation of its forces, starting from 10 am on Tuesday.

- According to a report by Khabarhub, over 570 inmates broke through the jail wall after protestors breached the Jaleshwar prison in Mahottari. Protestors breached premises of the Pokhra and Nakhu jails in Nepal, following which around 900 prisoners escaped, India Today reported.

- Former prime minister Jhalanath Khanal's wife Rabi Laxmi Chitrakar died of burn injuries after residence was set ablaze.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a CCS meet on Nepal unrest.

- Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi, in a post on X, called the incident heart-wrenching and apealed to the protestors to maintain peace. “My heart is extremely disturbed by the fact that many young people have lost their lives. Nepal's stability, peace, and prosperity are of utmost importance,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

- All crossings between India and Nepal were closed after violence and arson broke out at all India-Nepal border points. According to media reports, police posts were set on fire, leading to police personnel leaving their posts abondoned.

- UP police has been placed on 24-hour high alert in all districts along the Indo-Nepal border following the sensitive situation in Nepal. Under the leadership of ADG Law and Order, a special control room has been established in Lucknow to assist Indian citizens stranded in Nepal. Citizens can reach out for help through three helpline numbers -- 0522-2390257, 0522-2724010, 9454401674 -- and a dedicated WhatsApp contact at 9454401674.

- In Bengal also, India-Nepal border has been placed under alert.

- Over 40 people from Gujarat are reportedly stranded in Nepal as airports shut down and supention of flight operation.
