A chilling prophecy by Japanese manga creator Ryo Tatsuki, also known as the "New Baba Vanga," has sent waves of fear and derailed tourism in Japan. In her revised edition of the manga The Future I Saw, Tatsuki foresees a "great catastrophe" hitting Japan on July 5, 2025, a forecast now taking ominous momentum both online and offline. The cryptic prediction thought by some to refer to an earthquake or a mega tsunami of epic proportions states due to a massive undersea crack is forming between Japan and the Philippines, potentially triggering waves “three times as tall” as those witnessed during the 2011 Thoku earthquake and tsunami. Though Tatsuki has not elaborated on the nature of the event, mere reference to a disaster has sent panic, particularly because past predictions such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the death of Princess Diana, and the March 11, 2011 disaster have been strikingly accurate.

Shockwave Hits Social Media And Travel Industry

According to local media reports and local travel agencies:

• Flight sales from Hong Kong to Japan are down by 83 per cent for the late June–July travel season.
• Airline operators like Hong Kong Airlines and Greater Bay Airlines have canceled flights to southern Japan, including Kagoshima and Kumamoto.
• Hotel bookings and Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese holiday packages have fallen by as much as 50 per cent, even though this is peak travel season. "This is unprecedented, ee anticipated more than 80 per cent occupancy for summer, but actuals barely reached 40 per cent," said Hiroki Ito, Japan regional head for Greater Bay Airlines.
• Spring bookings in Japan fell by half compared to last year.
• Some travel agencies have reported 20–30% cancellation rates in the last two weeks alone.
• Japan’s tourism sector, still recovering from the pandemic, faces another blow.

Who Is The "New Baba Vanga"?

Reclusive manga writer Ryo Tatsuki gained fame after releasing The Future I Saw, a comic-formatted diary in which she said she can forecast the future via dreams. Her forecast of a "great disaster in March 2011" almost exactly matched the actual earthquake and tsunami in 2011, making her news-worthy. Ever since, she has developed a cult following, and her prophecies have been proven earlier. While there’s no credible evidence backing Tatsuki’s claims, the social and economic ripple effects of her warning are very real. Authorities continue to urge citizens and tourists to rely on verified sources and remain calm as July 5 approaches.
