The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) launched “Operation Baam” on Tuesday night, targeting 17 government installations across Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The coordinated attacks marked a dramatic surge in the group's armed campaign and triggered widespread alarm across the restive region.
One of the incidents linked to the offensive occurred in Turbat’s Absar area, where a grenade was hurled at the residence of Muhammad Younis. The attack, carried out by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants, injured five people, including women and children. The explosion, which took place in the backyard of the house, also caused property damage. Local authorities confirmed that the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
In a statement released shortly after the attacks, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch described the launch of "Operation Baam" as “a new dawn in the Baloch national liberation war.” He claimed the strikes stretched from the Makran coastal belt to the Koh-e-Suleman mountains, symbolising the expansive reach and operational capability of Baloch separatist fighters.
“The resistance has entered a new phase,” Gwahram stated. “Operation Baam is designed to show that Baloch fighters can execute large-scale, synchronised strikes across vast territory.”
Though the BLF has not released detailed casualty numbers or damage assessments, the group claimed the operations inflicted both human and material losses on Pakistani security forces. However, many of these claims remain unverified.
Security Response and Communications Blackout
By Wednesday morning, Pakistani security forces had launched search operations in the affected districts, including Kech and Panjgur. In response to the attacks, communication networks were partially shut down, likely to prevent further coordination among insurgents and curb the spread of information.
There has been no official confirmation of arrests, fatalities, or the extent of infrastructure damage. Security officials are still assessing the full scale of the coordinated strikes.
Escalating Conflict in Balochistan
Operation Baam represents one of the most aggressive campaigns by the BLF in recent years. The province of Balochistan has long been a flashpoint for separatist insurgency, driven by deep-rooted grievances over political marginalisation, control over natural resources, and a heavy military footprint.
