Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said India was most likely to retaliate militarily after militants killed 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and they were reinforcing their forces to deal with the action.
Notably, India has blamed Pakistan for orchestrating the attack, alleging that the terrorists behind the attack were from terror outfits flourishing in Islamabad.
“We have reinforced our forces because it is something which is imminent now. So in that situation some strategic decisions have to be taken, so those decisions have been taken," Asif said in an interview with Reuters.
He said Pakistan’s military had briefed the government on the possibility of an Indian attack.
India has adopted an aggressive stance against Pakistan after the terror attack in Pahalgam. Top officials and senior leaders of the centre are conducting ardent meetings to chart the future course to give a befitting reply. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has categorically conveyed that culprits will be brought to justice.
On Monday, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to apprise him about latest developments. Singh later met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Besides, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence conducted a meeting on Monday to discuss the issue. All opposition parties have unanimously supported the government in its action to avenge the Pahalgam attack.
Security forces and JK Police have launched a fervent operation against terror outfits breeding in the UT. Houses of many terrorists, who are claimed to have been involved in the attack, were razed.
Amid the developments, former JK Director General of Police (DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid said that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) will be reclaimed and Pakistan will be split into four parts.
