Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions: Pakistan on Wednesday released the visuals of airstrikes on Afghanistan's capital Kabul, hours after Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border troops. The Pakistani Air Force targeted multiple Taliban sites in several cities, including Kabul, Kandahar and Paktika, reported local media, citing Islamabad officials. While Pakistan said that the attacks were on the militant sites, Afghanistan accused Islamabad of targeting the civilian regions. Afghanistan also asserted that its attack was in response to Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan border areas earlier on Sunday.

Pakistan Declares 'Open War'

While declaring it as "open war", Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the continuos provocation from Afghanistan has ended led to the attack. "Our patience has reached its limit. Now it is open war between us and you," Asif posted on X (formerly Twitter). While the footage could not be independently verified, the residents heard at least eight blasts around 1.50 am, reported AFP.

Afghanistan’s government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, while providing details, stated that Kabul has launched attack in response to "insurrections" of the Pakistani military. "In response to the repeated rebellions and insurrections of the Pakistani military, large-scale offensive operations were launched against Pakistani military bases and military installations along the Durand Line," Mujahid asserte in his post on X.

'No Pak Posts Caputured'

The Pakistani prime minister's spokesperson Mosharraf Zaidi stated that no Pakistani posts were captured or damaged in the attacks, adding that Islaabad will respond to all the attacks effectively. "As of 2320 (1820 GMT) hrs not only were no Pakistani posts captured or damaged", Zaidi was quoted as saying by Reuters. "All aggression will get the same response: immediate and effective," he added.

Pakistan also said it was boosting security nationwide this week, placing forces on "high alert" and accelerating intelligence-based operations, arresting dozens of suspected militants, their handlers and facilitators, including Afghan nationals.
