For the first time in the history of the Pakistan army, a woman officer from the minority community was promoted to the rank of brigadier. Dr Helen Mary Roberts, an officer in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps, created history by becoming the first woman from the Christian minority community to rank brigadier in the country's army.
According to a Sunday report by The News, Brigadier Helen was one of the officers in the Pakistan Army who were promoted to the ranks of brigadier and full colonel by the Selection Board.
Helen received praise from the high and mighty in the Pak establishment over her astounding achievement, with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulating her. Sharif said the whole nation was proud of her and thousands of hardworking women like her from minority communities who are serving the country with distinction.

"I myself and the nation congratulate Brig Helen Mary Roberts on getting the honour of the first female from minority to be promoted as Brigadier in the Pakistan Army, he said.
“The entire nation is proud of Brigadier Roberts and the thousands of hardworking women like her from minority communities who are serving the country with distinction,” he further added.

During a Christmas celebration at Christ Church in Rawalpindi last year, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir praised the contributions of the minority community to the nation's progress. Brigadier Dr. Helen, a senior pathologist, has been serving in the Pakistan Army for 26 years. Data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in 2021 indicates that Muslims make up 96.47% of the population, followed by Hindus at 2.14%, Christians at 1.27%, Ahmadi Muslims at 0.09%, and others at 0.02%.
