Pahalgam Attack Updates: Pakistan, after leaving its citizens stranded for more than a day, reopened the Attari-Wagah border on Friday. Several visuals emerged from the border on Thursday suggesting that Islamabad had denied allowing its citizens to return to their motherland even though New Delhi had granted them permission. While Pakistan had released no official statement regarding the issue, it did not open the border for several hours, compelling the Pakistani citizens to spend the night at the border.

The stranded Pakistani citizens commenced the process of entry into Pakistan after the border was opened by the Pak officials following a delay. Earlier on Thursday, India allowed Pakistani citizens to leave the country through the Integrated Check Post at the Attari border until further directions are announced. The officials stated that the decision was taken on humanitarian grounds after receiving requests from several Pakistani citizens and their close ones in India.

While the government had earlier emphasised that the Pakistani citizens would only be allowed to cross the border till April 30, the revision took place on humanitarian grounds. However, the advisory clarified that all other passenger and good movements will remain suspended until further notice. Earlier on Thursday, the officials clarified that a long queue of Pakistani citizens was seen outside the Integrated Check Post (ICP) after they were not allowed to travel further.

The government had announced 'Leave India' notice to the Pakistani citizens after 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22. Apart from the notice, the government had also announced some strict measures against Islamabad, including suspension of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) and cutting down the business ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also assured that strict action will be taken against the promoters of terrorism in India.
