A video from a Pakistani news channel has gone viral, stirring controversy and misinformation across social media platforms. In the video, two anchors boast that Pakistani hackers have managed to take down 70 per cent of India's electricity grid, a claim that has been completely debunked by Indian authorities.
In the now-circulating clip, a female anchor opens the news segment by applauding Pakistani hackers, “Woh jo bacche lade hain, jo humare hackers lade hain. Main hairaan hoon,”
which translates to: “Those kids who fought, our hackers who fought. I’m shocked.”
Her co-anchor then makes an even more outrageous claim, stating, “Unhone toh barbaad kar diya. Wahan ka 70% bijli nizaam hack kar liya aapne... Isse zyada aap unse aur kya expect karte hain?” (“They’ve destroyed everything. They’ve hacked 70 per cent of their power system and the main websites.”) These statements have spread rapidly, fueling rumours of a major cyberattack on Indian infrastructure.
Not just the Pakistani army or the media, 18-22 years old hackers are also making Charlie of the Pakistani awam.

They had hacked and paralysed 70% of India's power grid, and we didn’t even find out. Strange. pic.twitter.com/WIJCV9WJuq
PIB Fact Check Responds
India's Press Information Bureau (PIB) quickly stepped in to dispel the misinformation. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PIB issued a clear warning:
“False Claim Circulating Online! 🚨 Social media posts are asserting that a cyber attack by #Pakistan has caused 70% of India's electricity grid to become dysfunctional. #PIBFactCheck: This is completely false.”

Maharashtra Cyber Officials Debunk the Narrative
A senior official from Maharashtra Cyber, India’s cybercrime and infrastructure protection agency, confirmed that the claim is entirely baseless. Although over 15 lakh cyberattacks have targeted Indian websites following the recent Pahalgam terror strike, none of them managed to breach critical systems like the national power grid.
The official also addressed and dismissed other rumors — including alleged hacking of Mumbai airport, aviation networks, municipal systems, and the Election Commission website.
He added, “The probe discovered that cyber attacks decreased after India-Pakistan hostilities ceased, but not fully stopped. These attacks continue from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Morocco, and some Middle Eastern countries.”
Operation Sindoor Report Highlights Cyber Threat
According to a detailed report titled "Road of Sindoor", prepared under India’s Operation Sindoor, several cyberattacks have indeed been traced back to Pakistan-allied Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups. These attacks aim to disrupt Indian cyber infrastructure but have not succeeded in causing any large-scale damage.
