In a tragic incident late last night, a mass shooting at Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park left two people dead and at least eight others injured, local officials confirmed. The violence erupted at about 10:30 PM near the junction of Lemon Hill Drive and Poplar Drive, a popular area within the park. Philadelphia Police reports that two of the victims injured during the attack are juveniles. The identities and ages of the killed persons have not been released yet.
The shooting reportedly broke out suddenly, causing panic among visitors in the area. Police said the shooting took place after a car meetup, according to CBS News. Several shooting victims were rushed to the hospital, including a person who was hit by a car. Witnesses report that several rounds were fired and several persons were seen running away. Emergency services crew quickly arrived, and aerial footage by local TV station WPVI-TV's Chopper 6 indicated a large police presence, with several crime scene units and emergency vehicles in the area.
As of Tuesday morning, there are no arrests have been made related to the shooting. The police officials indicate that the motive remains under investigation and have called for anyone with information to come forward. “Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking to witnesses,” an officer said to the local media.
Tragedy In A Row
In another similar incident, a mass shooting near South Carolina injured nearly a dozen individuals late Sunday evening. The shooting took place at approximately 9:30 p.m., Sunday, in the vicinity of Watson Avenue. Police confirmed 11 victims were injured in the attack and were rushed to local hospitals by Horry County Fire Rescue.

On Saturday evening, a concert at Black Bike Week, a large motorcycle club gathering in Atlantic Beach, turned into a scene of chaos when a fight in the crowd caused panic. At least 19 individuals were taken to the hospital after being trampled, as well as from heat exhaustion and dehydration. This new shooting is part of the increasing anxiety about violence with guns in the city. Residents and city officials have long called for more effective measures to make public places safe, such as parks. Police did not confirm whether the shooting was targeted or random. Extra patrols are likely to be sent to the area for precaution.
