A dramatic video capturing the exact moment a tornado struck a scenic volcanic geological park in China’s Inner Mongolia region has gone viral, drawing global attention. The rare weather event occurred on Tuesday, near the Ulan Hada Volcanic Geological Park, a protected reserve known for its striking landscape and geological formations.

The footage, obtained and verified by Reuters, shows clouds swirling menacingly above a narrow brown tornado funnel as the powerful vortex sweeps across open grassland. Debris can be seen flying in all directions as the tornado moves through the area.

Reuters confirmed the location using key identifiers such as a utility tower, building exterior, road layout, and terrain, all of which matched satellite and file images. The date was also verified through a report from Chinese state media.

No Casualties Reported But Property Damaged

Despite the tornado’s power, no casualties were reported. According to China National Radio, eight yurts owned by a homestay operator were destroyed in the storm. Emergency crews were quickly deployed to the area to evaluate the damage and ensure the safety of visitors and staff.

The tornado comes on the heels of deadly flash floods in Beijing and surrounding areas, which claimed at least 44 lives earlier this week. Authorities had placed all 16 districts of the capital on high alert due to worsening weather. Emergency services remain on standby across the country as meteorologists warn of further heavy rainfall.

Although tornadoes are not common in Inner Mongolia, the region is located at the convergence of cold polar air and warm tropical currents, conditions that can occasionally produce tornadoes, especially during thunderstorms. In recent years, videos of tornadoes in the area have appeared on social media, indicating that such events, while rare, do occur.
