As the escalatory spiral continues between India and Pakistan, Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday called an emergency meeting of the National Command Authority (NCA), the top body overseeing Islamabad's nuclear arsenal.
The NCA comprises civilian and military officials and is the top decision-making body on nuclear warheads. Pakistan, on Saturday morning, tried to attack various Indian bases using drones and missiles. However, India's air defence guns neutralised most of the incoming projectiles and drones in the air.
India and Pakistan are currently embroiled in a war-like situation, with Islamabad persistently trying to target Indian military infrastructure and civilian populations using drones, missiles, and ceasefire violations.
In retaliation, India has also launched attacks on Pakistan's air defence systems and airbases, inflicting major damage. It all started with the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack by the terrorists of 'The Resistance Front,' an offshoot of the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). 26 civilians, including a Nepali national, were killed in the attack in Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley. In response, India on Wednesday targeted terrorist camps under Operation Sindoor, launching attacks and headquarters in PoK and Pakistan's Punjab. India said that 100 terrorists were killed in the attack.
Over dozens killed in Pak ceasefire viiolations
India also said that its precision strikes refrained from targeting military sites and civilians and were directed against terrorists. However, Pakistan resorted to intensified ceasefire violations, followed by drone and missile attacks since then. Over a dozen Indian civilians have lost their lives to the indiscriminate Pakistani shelling along the LoC and international borders.
In retaliation, India has launched several strikes and destroyed Pakistani airbases and air defence systems. The escalation has continued, and the situation remains tense between the two nations.
