As hopes are running high for a much-awaited peace deal between the United States and Iran, US President Donald Trump on Sunday indicated a further extension of peace talks before a final agreement, saying that he has informed his representatives not to rush into a deal.

The remarks are significant as the Trump administration had been claiming for the past 24 hours that a deal was near. Before the announcement, Trump had also dropped a cryptic post on his Truth Social profile with an 'Adios' message and an AI-generated dramatic image of explosions and aircraft flying.

The post with a war-like scenario has prompted concerns over the fate of ongoing peace negotiations, which recently appeared to have reached a near-deal.

In the latest post, he blamed former President Barack Obama and his administration for striking a deal with Iran. He said, "One of the worst deals ever made by our Country was the Iran Nuclear Deal, put forth and signed into existence by Barack Hussein Obama and the rank amateurs of the Obama Administration. It was a direct path to Iran developing a Nuclear Weapon. Not so with the transaction currently being negotiated with Iran by the Trump Administration - THE EXACT OPPOSITE, in fact!"

Emphasising that the negotiations were going on in an orderly manner, he added, "I have informed my representatives not to rush into a deal at this time is on our side. The Blockade will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed. Both sides must take their time and get it right. There can be no mistakes! Our relationship with Iran is becoming a much more professional and productive one. They must understand, however, that they cannot develop or procure a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb."

Hopes of peace talks high

A day earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei spoke of "a trend towards rapprochement" with the US. However, he warned that "it does not necessarily mean that the United States and we will reach an agreement."

Appearing on a state television, Baqaei said, Tehran's "intention was first to draft a memorandum of understanding, a kind of framework agreement."

His remarks were followed by a big claim by Trump, who said that a memorandum of understanding has been reached. He said the deal "has been largely negotiated, subject to finalisation between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries".

His claim was doubled down by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who, on a visit to India, said that "good news' could come soon.

"I do think perhaps there is the possibility that in the next few hours the world will get some good news," Rubio told reporters in New Delhi.
