Soon after two major earthquakes that killed thousands and injured many more, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck central Turkey and a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey, a third quake of magnitude 6.0 hit central Turkey later in the evening.
More than 2,300 people were reported dead till 9.00 pm IST and the death toll was expected to rise further. Search operations were being carried out in full swing to rescue hundreds of survivors from the rubble as buildings collapsed across the region.
According to a report by AP, nearly 900 buildings were destroyed in Turkeyβs Gaziantep and Kahramanmaras provinces, said Vice President Fuat Oktay.

Earthquake In Turkey, Syria: Latest Developments
- At least 2,200 people have been reported dead till 7.0 pm IST and nearly 3,000 buildings have been destroyed in three major earthquakes in Turkey.
- The death toll in southern Turkey on Monday rose to 1,014, and at least 2,824 buildings were destroyed in the 7.8-magnitude earthquake, the head of the disaster and emergencies management agency (AFAD) Yunus Sezer said.

- Fresh earthquake rattles Damascus, Latakia other Syrian provinces, ANI reported citing Syria's SANA news agency.
- Another fresh earthquake of magnitude 7.6 struck Elbistan district in KahramanmaraΕ Province in southern Turkey, reports Turkey's Anadolu news agency citing the country's disaster agency.

- Till 4 p.m, at least 326 people were killed in Syria and more than 1000 people were injured following a major
earthquake in Turkey. Total death in Turkey rose to 912 while in Syria it has gone to 320.
- Two teams of NDRF comprising 100 personnel with specially trained dog squads and necessary equipment are ready to be flown to the earthquake-hit area for search and rescue operations, PMO added.
- Search and Rescue Teams of NDRF and Medical Teams along with relief material would be dispatched immediately in coordination with the Government of Turkey, PMO said.
- In the latest development, an energy official told Reuters that there is no damage to the Kerkuk-Ceyhan pipeline carrying oil from Iraq to Turkey.
