British Transport Police confirmed on Sunday that a 32-year-old arrested in Huntingdon in connection with the shocking knife attack aboard a London-bound train is being treated as the sole suspect. The man, from Peterborough, is said to have boarded the train from Peterborough station before going on a violent rampage that left 11 people injured.
The police initially detained two men. BTP later released a 35-year-old London resident with no further action, explaining that CCTV and witness accounts proved he was not involved. Officers explained that several panicked witnesses had pointed at the wrong individual amid chaos.
Terrifying Scenes Inside The Train
Witnesses described panic and horror as the attacker, dressed entirely in black, moved through the carriage wielding a blade. Taxi driver Viorel Turturica captured video footage showing the suspect screaming, “Kill me, kill me, kill me,” while being restrained by armed officers and a police dog on the platform at Huntingdon station.
Witnesses said some passengers armed themselves with bottles of Jack Daniels, while others begged for mercy. One passenger, an older man, was being called a hero this morning for shielding a young girl. The man reportedly received stab wounds in the process.Several passengers used belts and jackets as makeshift tourniquets to stop bleeding from deep wounds.
Railway Staff’s ‘Heroic’ Actions
Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy praised the courage of railway staff, “The actions were nothing short of heroic and undoubtedly saved lives.” A London North Eastern Railway employee who attempted to stop the attacker remains in life-threatening condition, becoming the most severely injured victim.
A group of Nottingham Forest supporters returning from a match also intervened. In a statement, the club commended their “extraordinary bravery,” saying their actions likely prevented further bloodshed.
Of the 11 injured, five have been discharged from hospital. The remaining victims continue receiving treatment, with serious concern surrounding those who physically confronted the suspect. Police currently believe the attacker acted alone, with no evidence pointing toward terrorism or wider networks.
