'Completely Covered In Blood': UK Train Stabbing Leaves Nine In Critical Condition As Police Arrest Two

A mass stabbing on a train travelling through Cambridgeshire left ten people in hospital on Tuesday evening, nine of them with life-threatening injuries, prompting police to declare a major incident and suspend rail services in the area. The attack occurred aboard the 6:25 pm local time service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross as it approached Huntingdon station.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed that two people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Images shared on social media showed armed officers, ambulances and cordoned-off platforms as emergency services rushed to treat severely injured passengers. Trains are not currently running in the area, and surrounding roads remain closed while the investigation continues.

Counter-Terrorism Officers Supporting Investigation

British Transport Police said counter-terrorism officers will support the investigation as detectives work to determine a motive. Speaking at the scene, Chief Superintendent Chris Casey described the attack as a “shocking incident” but urged the public not to speculate.

“Our response is ongoing at the station and will be for some time,” he said, adding that it “could take some time” before further details are confirmed. Casey thanked the public for their patience and cooperation amid ongoing disruption.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the stabbing spree “deeply concerning” and urged residents to follow the advice of local authorities. He said his thoughts were with the victims and emergency responders.

Witnesses Describe Scenes Of Panic

Passengers described moments of chaos inside the train. One eyewitness told the BBC they saw a man sprinting down the carriage with a bloody arm, shouting, “They’ve got a knife, run,” moments before another collapsed onto the floor. As the train pulled into Huntingdon, bleeding passengers poured onto the platform, calling for help.

London Underground worker Dean McFarlane, who witnessed the aftermath, said he saw “multiple people running down the platform bleeding,” including one man “completely covered in blood.” McFarlane said he tried to guide people away from the station and assisted passengers suffering panic attacks.

Passenger Intervention Reported

Another eyewitness, Olly Foster, said passengers were left in “pure panic” as the attack unfolded. Initially believing the screaming to be a post-Halloween prank, he realised the severity when passengers began forcing their way through the carriage.

“My hand was covered in blood,” he said, noticing blood smeared across the chair he had leaned on.

Foster described an older man who stepped in to block the attacker from stabbing a young girl, suffering a gash to his head and neck. Other passengers used jackets to staunch bleeding while waiting for paramedics.
