A 35-year-old Texas man has been arrested for reportedly pouring hot soup on his 67-year-old girlfriend over a row about her "talking too much," leaving her with serious third-degree burns, New York Post reported citing authorities. The suspect, who is identified as Alexander Alton McDavid, was arrested and charged with several serious offenses, including injury to a senior citizen. Besides, he was also charged for persistent violence against a family member, as local media reports and a police affidavit obtained by KWTX stated. After his arrest, McDavid was taken into custody at the McLennan County Jail and is being held on a $1,30,000 (Rs 1,11,70,841) bond.
The attack took place on February 28 at the couple's jointly owned home in Waco, Texas. McDavid is said to have become enraged during an argument and used a plate of scalding hot soup taken from the microwave to hit his girlfriend, inflicting third-degree burns on her right shoulder and forearm. The woman, who has not had her name revealed, was allegedly unable to seek immediate assistance since she did not have access to a vehicle or cell phone. It wasn't until several days later that she happened across police, and she was then able to file a report regarding the occurrence at a Social Security office.
In her testimony to the authorities, the victim disclosed that she had been in a relationship with McDavid for approximately one year and that they had been cohabiting. She claimed that the suspect had become more violent as time went by and that he had choked her in the past, though those instances had not been reported.
Police officers recorded the injuries of the woman, consisting of apparent third-degree burns visible in photographs. In her statement written down by officers, not just the new attack but the overall history of abuse was accounted for. The investigation remains ongoing.
Does the suspect have a spotless past?
According to records, McDavid is not a first-time offender. He has prior convictions for family violence assault in both 2017 and 2021, raising concerns about his pattern of behavior in domestic settings. The alleged victim claimed that she and McDavid had been an item for about a year, during which he moved in with her and started physically abusing her.
