The United States and Iran are moving closer to a possible agreement to ease tensions and end their ongoing conflict. The proposed deal, which is still under discussion, is expected to create a basic framework for peace and open the door for detailed negotiations on key issues like nuclear activity, sanctions, and regional stability.

US And Iran Near Possible Agreement

According to a report by Axios, the plan is a short, one-page document that outlines key steps both sides may take. However, the report added that nothing has been finalised yet. Officials say this is the closest both sides have come so far, with Iran expected to respond on key points within the next 48 hours. Under the proposed plan, Iran may pause its nuclear activities for some time, while the US could ease sanctions and release frozen Iranian money.

What Does The Framework Include?

The deal also aims to improve movement through the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for global oil shipping that has been affected by tensions. Both sides are expected to restrict movement through the Strait.

According to the report, the talks are being handled by US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner along with Iranian officials. The document includes about 14 points and, if agreed, would start a 30-day period of detailed discussions on bigger issues like nuclear limits, trade, and regional stability.

During these 30 days, both sides may slowly remove restrictions at sea, including Iran’s limits on ships and the US naval presence. However, if talks fail, the US could bring back its military actions or restrictions. Earlier on Wednesday, Iran asserted that it will only accept a deal that it sees as “fair.”

Araghchi Meets Chinese FM

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. According to Xinhua News Agency, the two leaders discussed bilateral ties and regional developments. The visit comes as China continues to buy Iranian oil despite US sanctions and amid reports of possible Chinese mediation efforts involving Pakistan.
