A 23-year-old woman was fatally shot by her father at his home in Prosper, Texas, after a heated disagreement over US President Donald Trump and the issue of gun ownership. The tragic event unfolded on January 10, 2025, when Lucy Harrison, a fashion buyer from Warrington, Cheshire, visited Texas with her boyfriend, Sam Littler, to see her father, Kris Harrison.

Sam recounted to the Cheshire Coroner's Court that a 'big argument' happened between Lucy and her about Trump, who was preparing to be inaugurated for his second term of office.

Sam explained that Lucy would often become upset when her father brought up the topic of gun ownership, as reported by the BBC. During the confrontation, Lucy, referring to Trump's controversies, asked her father, "How would you feel if I were the girl in that situation and I'd been sexually assaulted?"

Kris responded by saying that he had two other daughters living with him, and that it "would not upset him that much." Sam told the court that this remark deeply hurt Lucy, adding, "She became quite upset and ran upstairs."

The investigation also revealed that Lucy had long been uncomfortable with her father's ownership of a gun. Sam noted that Lucy would often become distressed when the topic of guns was raised, especially when her father defended his right to possess one.

Lucy's mother, Jane Coates, said, "She cared. She was passionate about things. She loved to have debates about things that meant a lot to her."

Sam described the moments leading up to the shooting, saying that later that day, about half an hour before they were due to leave to go to the airport, Lucy had been in the kitchen when her father took her by the hand and led her into his ground-floor bedroom.

Littler said he heard a loud bang about 15 seconds later and then Kris Harrison screamed for his wife, Heather.

"I remember running into the room and Lucy was lying on the floor near the entrance to the bathroom and Kris was just screaming, just sort of nonsense", said Littler.

Sam immediately rushed to the bedroom. Upon entering, he saw Lucy lying on the floor near the bathroom entrance. He recalled Kris "just screaming, just sort of nonsense," according to Sky News.

Kris told the court that he had purchased the gun a few years earlier because he wanted to feel secure about his family's safety. He also claimed he had never discussed the firearm with Lucy before the day of the incident.

The statement from Kris Harrison said he and his daughter had been watching a news item on gun crime when he told her he had a gun and asked her if she wanted to see it.

On the day of the shooting, Kris said he raised the gun to show it to Lucy, and then suddenly heard a loud bang. "I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell," he said. He admitted he could not remember whether his finger was on the trigger when the gun discharged.

The court also heard that Kris had previously struggled with alcohol addiction and had sought treatment in rehab for his drinking problem. He admitted to shooting his daughter.

Additionally, Kris Harrison had moved to the United States when his daughter was a child, had previously been to rehab for alcohol addiction.

CCTV footage showed that he had bought two 500ml cartons of Chardonnay from a 7-Eleven store earlier that day. He confirmed he had consumed about 500ml of white wine before the shooting took place.

"There isn't a day I don't feel the weight of that loss, a weight I will carry for the rest of my life," Kris said.
