US-Israel-Iran War: Amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East, Iran's Parliament Security Committee on Monday approved a new management plan for the Strait of Hormuz that includes measures to impose tolls on vessels passing through the strategic waterway and restrictions on certain countries, according to Iranian state media, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

What Is The New Management Plan For Strait Of Hormuz?

According to Iranian state media, the plan introduces a rial-based toll system for vessels transitioning through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, that handles about one-fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) in peacetime.

The plan also outlines measures related to maritime security, vessel safety, environmental protection, and the financial mechanisms governing passage through the Strait.

The plan explicitly bans passage of US and Israeli vessels and extends restrictions to countries participating in unilateral sanctions against Iran, the report added.

Additionally, it reinforces Iran's sovereign control over the Strait of Hormuz and emphasises cooperation with Oman to establish a legal framework for its management.

The move comes amid the escalating conflict in West Asia and signals Tehran's efforts to assert greater control over one of the world's most critical oil transit routes.

'US Going To Retake Control Of Straits Over Time': US Treasury Secretary

In separate news, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Monday said that Washington is going to retake control over the Strait to ensure freedom of navigation.

In an interview with Fox News, Bessent said, "The market is well supplied, and we are seeing more and more ships go through on a daily basis as individual countries cut deals with the Iranian regime for the time being. Over time, the US is going to retake control of the straits, and there will be freedom of navigation, whether it is through US escorts or a multinational escort."

Trump Warns Of Strikes If Strait Of Hormuz Not Reopened

US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington would target Iran's energy infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on Truth Social, the US President said, "Great progress has been made, but if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business’, we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island."
