America-India Relations: In a breakthrough in the diplomatic relationship between the United States and India, US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation on Monday, American Ambassador Sergio Gor said in an X Post attaching a photo of PM Modi and Trump. 

Moments before the announcement of the conversation between the two leaders, Donald Trump shared a photograph of New Delhi’s India Gate on his social media platform Truth Social, praising the monument as a “beautiful triumphal arch."

India, US Agreed To Trade Deal

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that India and the US have agreed on the trade deal, and reciprocal tariffs will be reduced to 18 per cent from 25 per cent. 

Providing details on what the call was about, Trump said that Washington would reduce its reciprocal tariff on Indian goods and charge a relatively lower duty.

Wonderful To Speak With 'Friend' Trump

Expressing his contentment over the conversation with President Donald Trump, PM Modi said, "Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. Delighted that Made in India products will now have a reduced tariff of 18%. Big thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this wonderful announcement."

MEA S Jaishankar Departs On Three Day US Visit

The development comes at a time when Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, departed for a three-day visit to the United States (February 2–4) on Monday, where he will participate in the Critical Minerals Ministerial convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The visit is being watched as both nations are engaged in trade deal talks.

The high-level meeting will focus on strengthening supply chain resilience, advancing clean energy transitions, and deepening strategic cooperation in critical minerals, key areas for both nations amid global shifts in resource security and technology.
