An American woman, Julie Neis, decided to let the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT help pick her next home, which led her to a small French town. According to a report by CNN, the woman had been feeling restless in the US, wanting a change of pace and a new adventure.

Rather than choosing a traditional way of selecting a destination by searching on social media platforms or YouTube vlogs, she asked ChatGPT for suggestions about where to move. The AI tool guided her toward a French town. Although the woman revealed she had never heard the name before, she trusted the recommendation and took the leap.

“I let a robot decide my future… and ended up in Provence. Burned out and overwhelmed, I outsourced my life decisions to ChatGPT—and booked a one-way ticket to the South of France,” Neis wrote on Instagram post.

“Now I’m rebuilding from the ruins—slow mornings, market flowers, and cooking. I spend my days wandering ancient streets, filming my slow life, and choosing peace over productivity (or at least trying to),” she added.

Arriving in France, she found herself in a quiet village, much different from her previous life. The pace was slower, the people fewer, and the environment more peaceful. She bought a home with historic stone features, embraced the local culture, and began adapting to day-to-day life there.

ChatGPT's decision wasn't without challanges

But the move wasn’t without its challenges. Despite the beauty and calm, she had to adjust to new routines, language quirks and cultural differences. Things she’d taken for granted in the US suddenly required more effort: getting used to French rhythms, figuring out local services, and navigating a life where things happen at a gentler but less predictable pace. She also had moments of doubt, wondering if she had acted too impulsively.

What happened when she reached ChatGPT suggested destination

”I’m three weeks into my move to a small town in Provence. This journey was born from, well, exhaustion and the belief that a different kind of life was possible. Different from the past 20 years spent hunched over a computer 8-10 hours/day,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I’m choosing awe and possibility over fear of the unknown, and writing a whole new chapter,” she added.

Yet, over time, she began to settle in. Walking the village streets, interacting with neighbours, and embracing the local food, traditions and community life gave her a sense of belonging. She found satisfaction in her choice to trust the AI’s suggestion, and in the new chapter she’d opened. The move became more than a change of scenery — it turned into a lifestyle shift.
