US President Donald Trump on Sunday showered praises on Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, even after not reaching an agreement with Iran despite 21 hours of marathon negotiations In Islamabad on Satuday. Sharing a hard-hitting post on Truth Social, Donald Trump mentioned that Pakistan has "very competent leadership" of Sharif and Munir.
The post read, "I have been fully debriefed by Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner on the meeting that took place in Islamabad through the kind and very competent leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan."
Trump then termed the Pakistani leaders "extraordinary men" and how these people "continuously thank" him for stopping the war between India and Pakistan, saving 30 to 50 million lives in the "horrendous war with India." The US President mentioned that he will always appreciate the praise.
The post said, “They are very extraordinary men and continuously thank me for saving 30 to 50 million lives in what would have been a horrendous war with India. I always appreciate hearing that—the amount of humanity spoken of is incomprehensible.
The three-day war between India and Pakistan took place after India retaliated in response to the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 innocent Indians, on April 22, 2025. India then launched Operation Sindoor as a retaliation. It hit terrorist launchpads in Pakistan. The ceasefire was announced on May 10, and Trump, since then, has claimed credit for the same. However, India denied it every time.

The US and Iran have been repeatedly blaming each other for not reaching a conclusion that would end six weeks of war that led to the killing of thousands of people, destroyed the global economy, and saw the rising of oil prices.
'Bad News For Iran': JD Vance
The US Vice President said that no agreement has been reached. More than the US, it is bad news for Iran. "The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that's bad news for Iran much more than it's bad news for the United States of America," Vance said.
Vance added Iran had chosen not to accept American terms, including not to build nuclear weapons.
"I could go into great detail and talk about much that has been gotten, but there is only one thing that matters — IRAN IS UNWILLING TO GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS!" Trump said later.
Meanwhile, Iran's Parliamentary Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who led his country's delegation along with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, blamed the US for failing to win Tehran's trust despite his team's offering "forward-looking initiatives."
Sharing a post on X, Ghalibaf said, "The US has understood Iran's logic and principles, and it's time for them to decide whether they can earn our trust or not."
According to Iran's semi-official news agency, Tasnim, the US made "excessive" demands, which hampered an agreement. Meanwhile, other media organisations claimed that the two countries were on the same terms in most of the issues. The only difference of opinions was regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program.
Ishaq Dar, Pakistan's foreign minister, declared the truce to be "imperative" to maintain. Speaking in Rome on Sunday, Pope Leo expressed his closeness to the "beloved Lebanese people" and appealed for an enduring truce.
