A viral video of a Canadian man physically attacking an Indian national inside a McDonald's outlet in Toronto has sparked widespread outrage on social media over increasing incidents of racism and xenophobia in Canada.
The video, captured by a bystander and which went viral on X and Instagram, shows how the altercation unfolded near the restaurant’s Mobile Order Pick-Up counter. The confrontation reportedly escalated from a verbal argument to physical aggression in no time.
In the video, a man, wearing a Toronto Blue Jays jacket, is seen throwing his phone away in anger as he walks towards another man, who looks to be of Indian descent. Without any provocation, the Canadian, who looked drunk, grabbed the Indian by his collar and pushed him. During the heated exchange, he accused the Indian of “acting superior,” while the latter, keeping his calm, warned, “You might get yourself in trouble.”
But the attacker did not back off: he came again, repeating his accusations and pushing him several times. The Indian man did nothing to retaliate. In less than a minute, the staff at the restaurant and onlookers intervened, asking both men to move outside. The attacker remained accusatory before being escorted out of the premises.
The above video was initially posted on November 2 by Caryma Sa'd, a Toronto-based lawyer and political commentator, who wrote that the assault appeared "random and unprovoked." The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified by police or news agencies.
