Israel settlers attack: A shocking video showing masked Israeli settlers brutally attacking Palestinian olive farmers in the central West Bank village of Turmus Ayya has sparked global outrage. The assault, captured on camera by Brooklyn-based American journalist Jasper Nathaniel, left a 55-year-old Palestinian woman critically injured and two others wounded.

According to eyewitness accounts, the woman identified as Afaf Abu Alia, also known as Umm Saleh was harvesting olives with her family when she was ambushed by settlers wielding wooden clubs. In the disturbing footage, one masked attacker is seen striking her multiple times on the head until she collapses unconscious. Palestinian media reported that she suffered a brain haemorrhage and was admitted to the intensive care unit in serious condition.

Nathaniel, who documented the attack, claimed on social media that Israeli soldiers had earlier escorted the group of farmers into the area and “sped off” moments before the settlers appeared. “The IDF led us straight into a brutal ambush by armed settlers. These people need to be in prison by tomorrow. Enough is enough,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

IDF Condemns Violence, But Denies Involvement

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement that troops later arrived to disperse the confrontation and “strongly condemn any form of violence” by Israeli citizens. However, Nathaniel rejected that claim, alleging that no Israeli soldiers were present during or after the assault.

Local Palestinian officials said the attack took place on the first day of the olive harvest — a period that often sees heightened settler violence against Palestinian farmers in the West Bank. “These assaults are meant to scare families away from their land,” one resident said, adding that olive trees are often uprooted or burned during the season.

The video has drawn condemnation from Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestine, who shared the footage online. “For two years, the world has seen scenes like this from the West Bank. I wonder where decent Israelis are, those who protest in Tel Aviv,” she wrote, urging Israeli authorities to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Human rights groups have repeatedly accused Israel of turning a blind eye to settler violence. No arrests have been reported in connection with Sunday’s assault so far.

The incident comes amid a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, brokered by US President Donald Trump, following days of cross-border violence earlier this month. Palestinian officials say such attacks undermine any prospects for peace and reflect a climate of impunity in the occupied territories.
