A 26-year-old Indian-origin woman, Gabrielle Forsyth, was subjected to racial abuse by a drunken man while travelling from London to Manchester on a train. The incident, which took place on Sunday, highlights ongoing racial tensions and discrimination faced by ethnic minorities in the UK.
Forsyth was returning home when she engaged in a conversation with a fellow passenger about a charity that supports immigrants, where she works. This discussion triggered an aggressive and racist outburst from a nearby man, who began shouting offensive remarks at her and other passengers. The man, boasting about England’s colonial past, declared, “You’re in England, you are claiming something. You would not be in England if you weren’t claiming something. English people conquered the world and gave it back to you. We conquered India, we didn’t want it, we gave it back to you.”
