A bizarre and scary digital model has showed what people may look like in 2050 if we don't get enough sleep. Bensons for Beds and sleep specialist Dr Sophie Bostock created 'Hannah' to demonstrate the effects on the human body when it only gets six hours of sleep per night.

The fictional Hannah is a 45-year-old British woman from the future who has red, bulging eyes, sagging skin, thinning hair, swelling legs, and persistent back pain. Additionally, she has diminishing muscles in her arms and legs, and because of her weakened immune system, she gets the flu frequently.

Adults who don't get the 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night that experts advise are more likely to experience health problems. Hannah was developed based on 19 studies that examined the physiological impacts of sleep deprivation.

People are losing more sleep than ever before due to busy modern lifestyles and rising smartphone use. According to a study, sleep deprivation will contribute to a number of chronic health problems, including Hannah's, by 2050.

"Hannah is a thought-provoking illustration of the holistic impact that sleep has on maintaining overall health. Many of us don't realise that haphazard daily routines and lack of sleep interfere with our circadian rhythms, the 24-hour cycles which control our physiology," said Dr Bostock.

Long-term sleep deprivation raises the risk of cardiovascular illnesses like obesity, heart disease, and Type 2 diabetes, according to studies.

In 2050, Hannah, who is currently 20 years old, will be 45, and her appearance reflects the effects of her sleep deprivation.

Chronic sleep deprivation will make her too exhausted to exercise when she is 45, which will cause her physical activity to gradually decline and result in a noticeable weight increase, especially around her abdomen.
