Trump Diwali White House 2025: US President Donald Trump will host a grand Diwali celebration at the White House today at 4 pm local time (1.30 am IST, October 22) where he will invite members of the Indian-American community, senior officials, and diplomats to the festival of lights. The ceremony will feature traditional lighting of lamps, Indian sweets, and vibrant cultural performances.
Earlier on Monday, Trump extended warm Diwali greetings to all Americans, describing the festival as “a reminder of light’s victory over darkness and good’s triumph over evil.” In his message, published on the official White House website, the President said, “Today, I send my best wishes to every American celebrating Diwali—the ‘Festival of Lights.’ For many Americans, Diwali is a timeless reminder of light’s victory over darkness. It is also a time to bring families and friends together to celebrate community, draw strength from hope, and embrace a lasting spirit of renewal.”
The US President added that as millions of citizens light diyas and lanterns, “we rejoice in the eternal truth that good will always triumph over evil.” Trump is scheduled to deliver brief remarks at the event, reflecting on the festival’s message of harmony, unity, and renewal.
Growing Acceptance of Diwali In US
Diwali, celebrated by millions of Indians worldwide, has become increasingly popular in the US over the past few years. Diwali has been officially recognised as a state holiday in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and California. California's Assembly Bill 268, authorizing school closures and leave on pay for the festival, will come into effect in January 2026.
A few school districts, like those in Edison, New York City, and Jersey City (New Jersey), and some of Texas, have also begun celebrating Diwali as a school holiday, citing the growing cultural significance of the festival in the United States.
Diwali is five-day celebration starting with Dhanteras, where individuals buy gold or cookware and pray to the gods. Naraka Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali is on the second day, and then the central day of Diwali is spent in praying to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity and wealth. Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj are on the fourth and fifth day, respectively, where families engage in rituals and gift giving to bond.
