UK Election Results 2024: Keir Starmer and his Labour Party on Friday received a landslide victory in the UK General Election 2024. The party has bagged over 400 seats in the 650-member parliament and achieved a Parliamentary majority mark of 326 seats to form the government. Starmer, all set to become the next British Prime Minister, declared on Friday that the United Kingdom is ready for a change.

"The change begins right here because this is your democracy, your community and your future. You have voted and now it is time for us to deliver," Starmer said after retaining his seat from North London. 

The exit polls predicted Rishi Sunak's Conservatives would suffer a huge setback in the elections. Meanwhile, Sunak on Friday conceded defeat as the trends showed that the Opposition Labour Party had won over 350 seats. "I am sorry. I take responsibility for the loss," Sunak said while addressing his supporters in Richmond and Northern Allerton.

Who Is Keir Starmer? 

61-year-old Keir Starmer, set to become the next prime minister of Britain was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II for his services to criminal justice and law. An ex-human rights lawyer and public prosecutor will be the oldest person to become British Prime Minister in almost half a century if he returns to power. 

A lawyer by profession, Starmer was first elected as a member of Parliament from London in 2015. He has two children and his wife Victoria, is reportedly an employee of the National Health Service (NHS).

The Labour Party has described Starmer as a man who has spent his entire career securing justice for those who need it. Starmer, the son of a toolmaker, faced challenging times right from his childhood which was spent in Surrey's Oxted. According to news agency IANS, Starmer’s mother, a nurse who worked for the National Health Service (NHS), battled a rare and severe illness all her life.

Starmer was elected to lead the Labour Party in the United Kingdom in 2020 after suffering its worst general election defeat in 85 years. Starmer and Labour have also profited from years of political unrest and economic suffering under the rule of the Conservative Party in the last 14 years.
