US President Donald Trump is considering whether to remove Kimberly Guilfoyle as the US Ambassador to Greece following allegations involving lavish gifts and a requested 100,000 dollar payment. Guilfoyle, a former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr, faces scrutiny over alleged misconduct. The controversy has enraged Trump’s allies and senior administrative officials, allegedly putting Kimberly’s career at stake, CNN reported.

Kimberly was engaged to Trump Junior

Kimberly is an American former prosecutor and television personality who became a popular face in conservative politics. Earlier, she worked as a presenter at Fox News before becoming closely associated with Trump’s political circle. Her relationship with Donald Trump Jr, the eldest son of the US President, brought her further into the Trump family’s inner circle. The couple were engaged for around four years before their relationship ended. Despite the breakup, Kimberly Guilfoyle retained ties with the family and later received the diplomatic appointment in Greece.

How did Trump react?

When asked about the controversy, Trump did not clarify anything or criticise Kimberly, adding “she’s always been so nice.” “I just heard about it. Too bad. I mean, I don’t know. I just heard a little bit about it. I don’t know too much, but she was always very nice,” Trump added.

What’s the controversy?

One of the key allegations against Kimberly is over a text message with Eric Deters, an ex-Trump donor. Eric Deters claimed that Kimberly Guilfoyle asked him to wire her 100,000 dollars to pay off an American Express credit card in the days before her Senate confirmation. He said he did not transfer the money because he lacked sufficient liquid assets at the time.

The ex-Fox News Channel host had also allegedly threatened guests at a dinner party in March that the U.S. could undermine the Greek government if it wanted to. The US State Department has initiated an investigation into Kimberly’s behaviour. According to a report in Daily Star, the cops are also looking into her alleged "potential substance abuse, use of private planes and helicopters, close relationship with an energy and construction company, improper gift acceptance, and more.”
