Saudi-Houthi Conflict: One person was killed and 11 others were injured in a fresh attack targeting Riyadh's international airport in Saudi Arabia. The incident came a day after a deadly strike at the King Khalid International Airport that killed 13 people and injured more than 300. The attacks have raised concerns over airport safety in the kingdom, with the Indian Embassy issuing an advisory asking Indian nationals to remain alert.
Fresh Attack Targets Riyadh Airport
Reuters reported, citing Saudi authorities, that an unidentified projectile hit Terminal 4 of Riyadh's international airport on Sunday, causing fire. The Saudi civil aviation authority later confirmed that one person was killed and 11 others were injured in the attack. The Saudi-led coalition stated that its air defence systems intercepted a cruise missile near King Khalid International Airport and also a ballistic missile launched towards Khamis Mushait.
Emergency alerts were issued in Abha, in southern Saudi Arabia, early on Monday. However, the Saudi Civil Defence later said the danger had passed. A footage run by the state television showed passengers waiting at a gate when a bright flash suddenly appeared. People could be seen running in panic, while parts of the roof appeared to cave in.
🇸🇦 CCTV footage of Saturday's attack on Riyadh airport. You can see just how powerful the blast was. There's a bright flash, and within seconds the whole place is filled with smoke. At least 12 people were killed, including Saudis, Bangladeshis and a U.S. citizen, and more than 300 were injured. And this was already the third time the airport had been attacked that week. Houthis Claim Responsibility For Multiple Attacks
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi group claimed responsibility for Saturday's attack on Riyadh airport. According to Reuters, in a televised speech on Sunday, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that the group had targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and two facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco.
The group also renewed their warning against using Saudi airports following the attacks, stating that the situation could become dangerous. "We urge everyone to take our warnings seriously, and Saudi Arabia bears responsibility for any failed interceptions," the Houthis said.
