Amid speculations on a ban on TikTok, the short-form content creators in the US are turning to another similar Chinese app, Xiaohongshu, or RedNote in English. The move from the creators is seen as a "protest" against their own government, as the users claim that the action on TikTok was "too harsh".

A large number of content creators have installed RedNote in the last few days as they search for a similar alternative. While there are many alternatives available for the creators, RedNote is the frontrunner because of the similarities TikTok and the Chinese app have. Several social media experts stated that the users are shifting to the RedNote as there is a friendly relationship between the US and the Chinese content creators, reported Forbes. More than 700,000 Americans have already joined the app in just two days, reported Reuters.

Why Are US TikTok Users Shifting To Xiaohongshu?

The transition from TikTok to RedNote is smoother in comparison to most of the other Chinese apps, as they have different policies for Chinese and foreign users. However, the RedNote has provided all the access to the users on equal terms. The users are not "migrating" to other prominent alternatives, such as Instagram or YouTube Shorts, as they see these apps as rigid in their policies and very critical towards some of the communities, especially LGBTQ+.

Though many of the users are enjoying the transition from TikTok to RedNote, there are several challenges ahead for the app authorities. RedNote has already started the changes in the policies to make it more friendly towards the foreign users. The app is hiring more people familiar with English and is also considering changes in the layout. Few of the users have also complained about the app not being "as efficient as TikTok". The social media experts are stating that it would be interesting to see if the trend continues for a longer period of time.
