Israel on Thursday confirmed the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the October 7 attack on Tel Aviv. Sinwar was reportedly killed in a firefight in southern Gaza. Israel has marked Sinwar’s death as a significant victory in its ongoing conflict with the Palestinian militant group following the outbreak of hostilities on October 7, 2023. Foreign Minister Israel Katz called it a "victory for the entire free world".
The Israeli forces also released drone footage claiming it shows the final moments of the Hamas leader. The video shows Sinwar sitting on a sofa in a ruined Gaza apartment. The Hamas leader is seen flinging a stick over his head in the direction of the approaching drone.

According to Israeli military officials, Sinwar’s remains were found in a bulletproof vest, grenades, and 40,000 shekels. Sinwar’s death is seen as a significant blow for Hamas and Axis of Resistance in its fight against Israel.
Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said that Sinwar escaped on his own into one of the buildings after being injured in the hand by gunfire. “Our forces utilized a drone to survey the area, and you can see the footage I’m presenting here,” he said.
“Sinwar, who was injured in his hand by gunfire, can be seen here with his face covered, in his final moments, throwing a wooden plank at the drone,” Hangari further said.
Who Was Yahya Sinwar
Hamas chief Sinwar was the mastermind in orchestrating the devastating October 7 ‘surprise attack’ that left over 1,200 people dead and led to the abduction of around 250 Israelis, which escalated the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

His role in the surprise assault has made him one of Israel's most-wanted individuals, and Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are celebrating his demise as a major victory in their fight against Hamas.
Sinwar has served as the head of Hamas in Gaza since 2017 and recently ascended to the role of chief following the suspected Israeli assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.
