Israel-Hamas War: Two days after the Israeli Defence Forces confirmed the death of Hamas chief Yayha Sinwar, Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Hosseini Khamenei on Saturday hailed his sacrifice for the Resistance Front, calling him the 'heroic mujahid', who has joined his martyred commanders. The reaction from the top Iranian cleric followed Israel and the US confirmation of Sinwar's death in Rafah.
Yayah Sinwar, who reined in after the death of Ismail Haniyeh and orchestrated the October 7 attack on Israel was killed by Israeli soldiers in the Tel al-Sultan area of Rafah in Southern Gaza. The 828 Brigade of the IDF discovered Sinwar's body during their operation.
Reacting to the development and the future of resistance, which seem under peril due to consistent setbacks, Khamenei said that for someone like Yahya Sinwar, who dedicated his life to the battle against the usurping anything less than martyrdom would have been an unworthy fate.

"The loss of Yahya #alSinwar is painful for the Resistance Front. But this front didn’t halt its progress in the wake of the martyrdoms of eminent figures like Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Fathi Shaqaqi, Rantisi, & Ismail Haniyeh. Similarly, it won’t falter with Sinwar’s martyrdom either," the official X account of the Iranian leader stated on Friday.

Asserting that "Hamas is alive and will remain alive", the Iranian Supreme Leader also reiterated Iran's support for the cause of Palestine.
"As always, we will stand by the sincere Palestinian mujahideen and fighters," he wrote in another X post.
In his latest post, he offered his condolences to the family of Sinwar on his death.
"I congratulate the family of Yahya #alSinwar, his comrades, and all those devoted to jihad on the path of God on the martyrdom of our brother, Yahya al-Sinwar, and I offer my condolences for this loss," Khamenei wrote.
Meanwhile, an autopsy of Sinwar's body revealed that he was killed by a gunshot wound to his head. The IDF soldiers also chopped off one of his fingers for DNA verification, AP reported.
