Self Driving Bolero: We have been witnessing significant advancements in technology as we are getting closer to having vehicles that can drive themselves. In India, a startup in Bhopal has caught everyone's attention with its amazing innovation. Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra also recognised this unique innovation. The startup has modified a Bolero SUV to include self-driving abilities.

Anand Mahindra posted the video on his social media platform X, with the caption, “Evidence of tech innovation rising across India. An engineer who’s not building yet another delivery app. Sanjeev is using complex math to target level 5 autonomy. I’m cheering loudly. And certainly, won’t debate his choice of car!”

The person behind this incredible invention is Sanjeev Sharma, an IIT graduate who has been interested in autonomous technology since 2009. The modified Bolero SUV is equipped with special hardware and software for autonomous driving, including sensors like LiDAR, cameras, radar systems, and a powerful central system for making decisions in real-time.
In a viral video, the Bolero SUV is seen navigating through busy streets without any human interference in physically steering the wheel. It smoothly drives through obstacles like pedestrians, parked cars, police barricades and heavy traffic. The smart autonomous technology allows the SUV to make safe and precise turns, ensuring a smooth ride. This innovation is a significant step forward in the automotive industry, showcasing the potential for self-driving cars to become a reality sooner than we think.
In response to the post shared by Anand Mahindra, the IIT graduate Sanjeev Sharma expressed his happiness saying, “I am humbled to know that my years of mathematical research in motion planning, decision making under uncertainty, and reinforcement learning, and our cutting-edge pioneering research at Swaayatt Robot and Deep Eigen in enabling autonomous vehicles to negotiate extremely complex, adversarial traffic dynamics and unstructured environments and stochastic, is being recognised, and that too by Mr. Anand Mahindra!!”
